Jefferey Spivey became a professional writer at just 16 years old.
He was tapped to participate in a special partnership between his high school and the Pensacola News Journal. He wrote an impassioned op-ed about then-President George W. Bush and the ways his administration could improve education. He was asked back to publish another op-ed, which caught the eye of the publisher of Navarre Press, a community newspaper.
For the next few years, Jefferey worked for Navarre Press, writing about and photographing local events and authoring a column about Florida politics. Later, at Flagler College, he pulled triple duty as a freelance reporter for the St. Augustine Record, editor-in-chief for the college paper The Gargoyleand contributing writer for Flagler Magazine.
Additionally during his time at Flagler, he was the first student to snag a coveted internship at Dateline NBC in New York City. He also spent a semester interning at Jacksonville NBC affiliate First Coast News.
Over the next decade, Jefferey split his time between a successful stint in retail management for Gap Inc. and a burgeoning freelance career. He launched Uptown Bourgeois, a men’s fashion blog, in 2014, and spent nearly five years as a microinfluencer, managing the brand’s social media presence, partnerships, and content evolution.
In 2016, he left the retail industry to become a full-time freelance writer and editor, and the switch proved fruitful. He used a unique mix of entrepreneurial savvy, sophisticated wordplay, and sharp proofreading skills to amass more than 750 5-star reviews on freelance marketplaces Fiverr and Upwork, becoming a Fiverr PRO and a Top Rated freelancer on both platforms. Over the years, he’s appeared in a Fiverr ad campaign and in the official launch video for the PRO program.
As a freelancer, his work has included viral op-eds, product launches, email marketing campaigns, video scripts, and e-books. His subject matter expertise covers a wide range of cultural and industrial categories, spanning from men’s wellness and politics to cold-formed steel framing and fertilizers.
Outside of work, he has dedicated his free time to honing his fiction and screenwriting skills. In 2018, he advanced to the second round of the MACRO Episodic Lab Screenwriting Contest with his pilot script INFLUENCE.
Regardless of the field, the client, or the purpose, Jefferey is a skilled, imaginative storyteller who can find the hook in even the most complex subjects and make them accessible. With an eagle eye for detail and a passion for strong narratives, he’s an asset for any team.
