About Jefferey

Jefferey Spivey is a St. Louis-based author, poet, and journalist and is currently Editor at Northstar Publishing. He holds an MFA from the Bennington Writing Seminars. His debut story collection, The Birthright of Sons, won the 2023 Iron Horse Book Prize and made the 2024 Maya Angelou Book Award longlist. His novel-in-progress, Fatherwife, is a finalist for the 2026 DAG Prize for Literature and earned a 2026 Director’s Grant from The de Groot Foundation. Additionally, he was a semifinalist in the Saint Louis Poetry Center’s 2025 James H. Nash Poetry Contest. His poetry has appeared in Rigorous; his stories have appeared in Evergreen Review, Hive Avenue Literary Journal, Punt Volat, A Gathering of the Tribes, Typehouse, decomp, and Havik; and his creative nonfiction has appeared in DADDY and Slackjaw.
